technology. This philosophy has resulted in the supply of numerous
tailor-made turn-key solutions for our customers based in Spain and abroad.

The application of our innovative thinking to Car Park Logistics resulted in the
development of Logic Park. By use of electronic devices managed by special
software LOGIC PARK optimises the full exploitation and logistics of Car Parks
resulting in a faster, more efficient service to the users and contributes to more
successful and profitable business.


The scope of this document is to identify the need and application of Logic Park
clarifying the technical, functional and operational aspects of the different
elements which compose it. Also included is basic information about aspects
related to the installation of LOGIC PARK on site.

The principal objective of LOGIC PARK is the improvement and optimisation of Car Park management thereby offering the customers a higher quality service, in particular to the rapid localisation of vacant
parking spaces.


Nowadays, one of the most common problems in Car Parks is the general noninformation to the user about the location of vacant spaces.

Typically, the user must drive around the Car Park un-systematically in search
of a free space. This is particularly problematic at peak hours when many cars
are circulating un-guided inside the Car Park and provokes traffic jams inside,
as well as outside the site.

The lack of luminous information panels inside Car Parks showing on which
floors there are free spaces results in an un-controlled flow of traffic including
areas of full occupancy and generally reduces internal circulation speed of all
the drivers looking for spaces. The end result is a loss of time for the user- time
for which he is in fact being charged for and a lower rotation of the spaces.

It is equally possible that, without exact knowledge of the true number of free
spaces and using traditional (but unreliable) counters on the entrances or exits,
there may even be more cars circulating inside the building than free spaces
available. Alternatively, there could be free spaces used as a “safety margin”.

Reduced turnover of parking spaces with associated reduction in income
Limitation of the rotation capacity of parking spaces due to internal circulation problems, reduces the potential profit. Profit is maximised when the time is minimised from entry to locate a space, and on exiting.

Slow incoming traffic will result in queues forming which may tail back
onto the main road .

To improve the management and control of a Car Park, in an ever increasingly competitive market, implies the utilization of modern solutions which enhance the overall logistics. Logic Park is a control system for parking spaces which permits the operator increased control in management and organisation of a Car Park, whilst offering a faster and more efficient service to the customer in the search for vacant spaces.


Logic Park improves the occupancy index and optimises the rotation of parking spaces which in turn provides increased security and comfort for the user.

Using an advanced data network , CODIC has developed an electronic system
for the intelligent control of Parking spaces, which promotes their maximum
occupation and rationalisation.

From the control centre, all data coming from each one of the parking places
(vacant/occupied- Nr of spaces- date/hour) is automatically processed. By
means of electronic information panels located strategically in the interior of the
of the building together with luminous indicators located at each space, the
driver is guided quickly and directly to vacant spaces, saving time and avoiding
traffic jams and nuisance to the user.

The control centre has special software designed to manage the Logic Park
system. Running under the Windows platform, the software provides all the
necessary information to show each area of the Car Park and each space
graphically, present statistics on occupancy levels, to modify the messages on
the information panels and make available real-time information about the
status (free/occupied) of each parking space directly on screen.





Improved service: User finds vacant parking space simply by following the clear indications provided by the information panels, signs and indicators above spaces which are automatically updated in real-time.

Reduced stress and frustration at peak hours: Logic Park eliminates queues and traffic inside, and minimises them outside, the Car Park giving quick, easy and stressfree parking.

More comfort: As there are less vehicles circulating, it is easier to drive around the site. Exhaust emissions inside the building are reduced making a cleaner and more agreeable atmosphere.

More value for money: By minimising the time to find a parking space the customer is in fact paying for having the vehicle parked and not driving around looking for a free space or stuck in queues.

Improved safety: Logic Park directs the flow of traffic straight to the location of free spaces in an organised manner. This eliminates the possibility of vehicles circulating in zones of full occupation, or making special manoeuvres inside the Car Park. This in turn minimises the risk of vehicles hitting or bumping into other cars and damaging them.

Increased customer loyalty: A satisfied customer will return frequently.

Reduced staffing costs: Logic Park optimises the logistics of the Car Park and so reduces the requirement of extra staff to cope with peak-time capacity and problems.

Optimised logistics creates more profit: Logic Park increases the rotation of parking spaces especially at busy or peak times. This directly increases revenue.

Increased and detailed information available: Using data from its database Logic Park creates daily/ weekly/annual statistics about general or specific areas or parking spaces. This information allows an in-depth analysis of the operation of the Car Park and assists in its maximum exploitation.

Possible increase in spaces: As Logic Park directs the flow of traffic inside the Car Park, the system allows a Car Park design which takes maximum advantage of the space available. Without controlled flow of traffic inside the building sometimes spaces must be removed to create “turning zones” .

Reduced maintenance costs: A general reduction in vehicles circulating and in fumes produced equates to less wear and tear of the installations saving money.
Reduction of running costs: Illumination and ventilation can be minimised by using
the system to block off floors or zones at off-peak times. Alternatively the on-screen data shows when the last user has left a zone allowing the shutting down of ventilation and illumination.

Reduction in fraud: The Logic Park database stores times of occupation at each
space. In the case of a lost ticket, the operator can identify the space which the vehicle occupies (or occupied) and cross-check the information with the customer. A genuine customer is usually willing to assist in this operation.


One of the major advantages of Logic Park is its easy installation. Using special
trunking (with maximum extension of 200 linear metres in one direction per
branch) the sensors are connected to the system simply and quickly , requiring
basic tools and a minimum of man-power. Inside this trunking both the power
supply and the communications are made to, and from the sensors which plug
into it using a special plug.

• Luminous sensors
Sensors, located over every parking space, provide the detection of status (free/ occupied) of each parking place by means of ultrasonics. Each detector is coded
with a unique identification number, allowing the system to link the information it receives with each individual parking space and display it on-screen in
the control centre, green un-occupied, red if occupied.
A luminous indicator on each sensor, clearly visible from a great distance,
indicates to the user if the space is free, occupied or reserved (green+red).

• Luminous indication panels
The electronic information panels are deployed in such a way as they are visible
right from the entrance of the Car Park. By way of text and symbols they guide
and inform the user. All the panels are controlled automatically from the central
computer but can be manually overridden to block of floors, reserve areas etc.

The information panels give specific information regarding the different zones of
the Car Park, indicating the number of free spaces in each direction or area. It is
possible to configure the panels to indicate different information depending on
the % occupation of the zone asigned.


• Concentrators
One concentrator is required per line of trunking. Each line of trunking can
handle up to 255 pieces of equipment, whether they be sensors, information
panels, counters, etc... each concentrator obtains information from all
equipment connected to thee trunking and sends this to the PC on request. The
concentrators are located in the electric power distribution cabinet, from where
all the 220VAC mains power originates.

• Counters
Directional vehicle counters are deployed strategically throughout the car park
to input circulation data into the system . These vehicle counters are installed
into the floor or on the ceiling, with a minimum of work, and like all the elements
of Logic Park are connected to the trunking. The counters are used predictively
to anticipate occupation of spaces in different levels or zones of the Car Park
allowing the number of available spaces shown on the panels to be correct at all

• Control centre
The control centre is comprised of a PC where the Logic Park software resides.
This user friendly software allows the operator to view the status of the Car Park
visually in real time, as well as resolve, block or re-direct the traffic towards predetermined zones.

• Control software
The software, which works under WINDOWS, automatically controls the entire system. It has several screens which inform and facilitate the task of the operator. On running the system a general graphical representation of the whole Car Park is shown on-screen.
All operations can be controlled from the main screen from where all the distinct options are accessible.

For each installation the Logic Park software is tailored to meet the exact
requirements of the customer and has been carefully developed over a period
of years to give the operator maximum flexibility and control over the system.

Each floor of the Car Park is represented graphically, in such a way that the
operator can see the current status of all the spaces at any time ( free -
occupied - restricted - reserved- blocked, etc.)

The clever design of the software allows most parameters to be set up simply by mouse clicks, icons and drags on-screen and is a major advantage over some “rigid” programs offered by our competitors.

Here are just some of the many possibilities provided by the software:

• Information about the number and location of free and occupied parking

• Information about the % occupation of the Car Park in real time. The
information can be obtained generically (for the whole Car Park), or by floors, or

• Re-counting of the number of spaces occupied or reserved in order to have
knowledge of the exact number of free spaces available for cars entering (ideal
for busy periods).

• Control of all the luminous information panels and indicators globally or by zone.
For example it is possible to program indicators assigned to a zone to “flash”
green where occupation levels exceed a programmable % threshold.

• Assign different messages to the signs as required; this allows us to program a
different behaviour for the sign by time and day of the week for different
Eg. Weekdays the sign indicates number of available spaces between 1 and 90%
occupation. Above 90% occupation it indicates XXX.

• By means of the independent control of information panels it is possible to
restrict access to certain zones whenever required.

• Statistics module which produces daily/ monthly reports about the number of
cars entering/ leaving the Car Park, average time of stay, rotation analysis etc

• Possibility to detect and notify about vehicles parked for abnormally long
periods to prevent fraud. This allows the operator to manually enter and link the
car’s plate number and description to the space it occupies. When this customer
vacates his space, Logic Park automatically detects this and the car information
appears on screen with a visual alarm.

The operator, aware that the vehicle is going to the exit, can identifyit and
double-check the ticket against the known length of stay of the vehicle.



The deployment of the system has been developed around the use of a
commercial modular trunking system with internal power conductors which is
IP55 and CEI EN certified. The trunking system is supplied in length sections
and is suspended from the ceiling using simple metal brackets every 3 metres.
Every 0.5 metres the trunking provides sockets allowing the connection of

CODIC has designed Logic Park in such a way that all the data transmission
required for Logic Park devices is transmitted via the 220VAC mains power for
maximum reliability and ease of deployment, start up and maintenance.
Additionally the sensor/ indicators are simply clamped to the trunking, and can
be aligned to the centre of each space in seconds.

This clever use of the 220VAC as a transmission medium, and use of a
commercial trunking system has many benefits including:

• Elimination of time consuming and ugly wiring

• Minimisation of installation time and disruption

• Maximum reliability of the installation is guaranteed with the minimisation
of wiring

• Sensors can be installed in a minimum of time

To each individual continuous length of rail we can connect a maximum of 255
devices, but in practise this figure is usually lower as the system is normally
optimised to the physical layout of the Car Park. The maximum length of the
trunking in any direction is approximately 200 metres.

Therefore in a typical installation we have several lines of trunking, corresponding to the different floors or zones of the building, each headed by a concentrator which manages the data onto and from the 220VAC.

The data outputs to the control centre from the concentrators are connected in
series. A normal RS-485 cable is then run from the concentrator cabinet to the
control centre (up to 1Km max. away), via an RS-232-RS485 converter.
An electrical distribution box houses a general and individual switches and
fuses to comply to local electrical distribution regulations.

If any device must be installed at some distance from the rail, a 16mm PVC
tube will be required inside which runs a 3 x 1’5mm² electric cable.


Where the design of the Car Park is such that structural columns or pillars
obstruct the line of sight of the drivers to the luminous indicators (normally these
are fitted to the sensor which is over the centre of each parking space) it is
necessary to install the luminous indicators (red - green) away from the sensors
to the edge of the parking spaces where they can be clearly seen. In such
cases the connection between the sensors and indicators is realised using a 4 x
0,25mm screened cable inside a small PVC tube.


Since its original creation, back in 1996, Logic Park has undergone
considerable development to enhance and perfect its the mechanical, electronic
and software design.
A considerable number of projects have been installed, and the benefits that
Logic Park provides, which have been described in this document, have been
enjoyed by Car Park operators and customers alike.
The true value of Logic Park to the operator can be demonstrated by the fact
that many of our installations have resulted in further orders, not only from the
original customer but also from their competitors!
